Daventy Canal Arm & Marina  [ JUNE 2012 ]

Members of the Diagonal Lock Advisory Group have met with The Daventry Canal Trust to discuss the potential of a Diagonal Lock on the new Daventry Canal Arm, which will connect the Grand Union Canal to a new marina in Daventry.

This is an extensive and ambitious project which will hopefully bring investment and regeneration to Daventry - the inclusion of a Diagonal Lock could provide a focal point for this project and ensure the long-term viability of the new canal arm.

For further information about the Daventry canal please visit Daventry WaterSpace consultation site.

A Diagonal Lock for Lapal  [ MARCH 2012 ]

The Diagonal Lock team have recently engaged in discussions with the Lapal Canal Trust to explore the possibility of building a Diagonal Lock on the Dudley No. 2 canal, as part of Lapal's wider regeneration programme.

The Lapal Canal Trust are working towards regenerating the 5 mile dissused stretch of the canal. The famous Lapal Tunnel has fallen into disrepair and can no longer be used to navigate between the 2 points, which has created a need to implement a boat lift instead.

Terry Fogarty and Phil Sharp of the Diagonal Lock Advisory Group have met Dr Peter Best, Chairman of the Lapal Canal Trust to discuss the project - these initial discussions were very constructive and positive. Furthermore, the Chief Executive of Birmingham City Council, Stephen Hughes, has also highlighted the Lapal Canal as a possible location for the Diagonal Lock, and has indicated that the council views the Diagonal Lock as a potential tourist attraction for the West Midlands.
